Continuing again with my little series here - mostly just experimenting with layers and materials ;) The model of the compass is from Turbosquid :XD:

Rendered in Vue 6 Infinite

I loved experimenting with the "Granite" Countertop to get it to come out looking right :D

Nice, I like its reflection in the lid...Don't know what kind of compass needs a mirror though, maybe the Pirates have turned metro :lol:

And yes, the granite surface looks very real.

You might want to check this out [link] also you can do a search online for "mirror compass" They were useful in allowing the user to site along the horizon line and use the mirror to do this and still view the face of the compass. In early explorations it was necessary to mark landmarks and access points accurately using a mirror compass sighted along the horizon (at times this compass was also referred to as a mapping compass). Compasses back into the 1600's had mirrors in the lids to allow this ;)
